The Opportunity

We’re seeking an Embedded Linux Engineer who has a passion for building and maintaining Linux based embedded platforms. If you want to make a significant impact on the development of world-leading integrated access control, intruder alarm, and perimeter security solutions, this opportunity is for you. As part of #TeamGallagher you will

  • Contribute to the design and development of our next-generation security products.
  • Create Linux-based operating systems for new products.
  • Keep the kernel of existing products up to date. 
  • Develop embedded software to run on Linux.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers for board bring-up, debugging and integration of software with hardware components.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive unit tests.
  • Participate in review of source code changes.
  • Support the entire application lifecycle and contribute to planning, concepts, design, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain software applications to a high standard, including any related artifacts such as documentation and specifications.

To be considered for this role, you will

  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Have 5 years demonstrated experience in commercial development.
  • Be comfortable merging upstream Linux into vendor supplied BSP.
  • Be able to determine if a CVE affects a product.
  • Understand Linux kernel and driver development concepts.
  • Be proficient with Buildroot or Yocto.
  • Be proficient in Embedded C/C++.
  • Have experience solving problems and clearly documenting technical designs.
  • Actively keep up with modern coding and design practices.
  • Have knowledge of digital electronics and schematics.
  • Have knowledge of microprocessor architectures.
  • Be proficient in use of Git version control tools and process.
  • Be proficient in using debugging tools to track down product problems and defects.
  • Experience in board bring-up, boot loader modification, and driver development.
