The Opportunity

We are on the hunt for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic Information Services team at Gallagher. You'll be a key member of the team, focusing on driving enhancement of our Business Intelligence services & solutions.

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and platforms that enable better business insights and decision-making across the Gallagher Group.

You’ll mentor a talented team, improving data processes, and integrating cutting-edge technologies to continuously innovate how we manage and use data.

Additionally, you will manage ELT environments and data governance practices, develop actionable data models using tools like dbt Core and Databricks, and collaborate with business stakeholders to translate data needs into effective solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating maintaining, and leading the development of data engineering solutions, ensuring performance, scalability, & usability of BI models & processes.
  • Developing high-quality dimensional data models + continuously improving analytics engineering processes.
  • Operating + maintaining Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and dbt CICD solutions, while leading improvements in CICD processes.
  • Collaborating on Power BI report development + administration and exploring advancements in BI technologies.
  • Engaging with business stakeholders to document business questions and relevant source system data.

 

The Fit

You have a blend of expertise in Azure Data Factory + Dimensional Data Modelling, strong problem-solving and analytical skills + a collaborative and mentoring mindset. To succeed in this role, you’ll also need:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics, Mathematics or Computer Science, as well as 5+ years proven industry experience.
  • Databricks Data certificate, preferably Engineering Professional level. 
  • Demonstrated record in business analysis and project delivery.
  • Proven experience in Azure DevOps pipelines and API data extraction solutions.
  • Proven experience in languages such as Python, SQL, PySpark, as well as knowledge of markup languages such as YAML and JSON for configuration and data interchange.

If you have experience in the following domains, this would be an advantage:

  • dbt, preferably in dbt Core
  • Working with ERP data, preferably SAP
  • Integrating SharePoint lists and document libraries into data solutions
  • Working with Azure Key Vault
  • Using Azure Logic Apps for automated workflows
  • Managing Azure virtual machines (VMs) and Azure Virtual Networks (VNets)
  • Working with Microsoft Entra ID for identity management
  • proficiency in scripting and automation tools, enabling efficient data workflows, process automation, and systems integration.
